Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan once again urged people to follow social distancing and wear masks, as at least six states are witnessing a spurt in cases of corona virus disease (Kovid-19).
The Health Minister told news agency ANI, “India has one of the lowest mortality rates and now we have the vaccine, but this is not the time to be careless about the proper behavior of Kovid. Due to the negligence of the people, cases are increasing in six states. I urge everyone to adhere to maintain social distancing and wear masks. ”
Harshvardhan’s remarks come against the backdrop of an increase in infections. Especially in Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, Kovid-19 cases are increasing daily. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health, the country’s active caseload on Saturday crossed the 200,000 mark for the first time since 19 January.
According to the Maharashtra State Health Department, 15,817 new cases were reported daily for the first time in 162 days on Friday. On the other hand, Kerala reported 1,780 new cases, bringing the state’s infection load to 1,087,443.
According to an expert team sent to Maharashtra, kovid-inappropriate behavior, gram panchayat elections, wedding season, opening of schools, congested public transport are possible reasons for the lifting of cases in the western state. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has warned that if cases continue to escalate, they may have to impose lockdown at more places.
The ministry said in a statement that the central government is regularly reviewing the status of Kovid-19 and public health measures with states and union territories. “Recently, the Center has sent high-level public health teams in Maharashtra and Punjab to assist in Kovid-19 control and measures,” the ministry said.
