The aim of this action is to improve the energy efficiency of the building, as well as its internal comfort, both thermal and lighting, by correcting the deficiencies of the current roof, while respecting the character and value of the architectural construction as far as possible Is.
The works with significant technical complexity will be carried out in phases till their scheduled completion in September. To minimize the impact caused by each stage of work, premises have been set up on the fourth floor of the building to accommodate services whose activity would need to be changed at any time.
The renewal works are partly financed from the European Union through the specific objective of Navarra’s FEDER 2014-2020 operational program “React-UE 4. Support for investments that contribute to the transition towards a green economy”.
Specifically, out of a total budget of 4,419,060.78 euros (VAT included), the European subsidy amounts to 2,842,350 euros, while the rest of the investment will be recovered from the general budget of the Government of Navarra.
The project has been designed by architecture studio Arize Huerte Asociados and the works will be executed by the company Jacar Montages SL.
One of the problems current roofing presents is that of leaks that come from broken domes and bases, disconnected gutters, joints separated from PVC sheets, cracks due to deformations and stresses caused by expansion of the material, and others. Another problem that appears is the excessive sunlight inside and the huge energy loss due to the lack of insulation on the roof and the age of the domes.
action on domes
cover of Ubermin Clinic It is composed of 1,452 skylight domes, of which a third (472) provide light. Since its opening, the building has been criticized for having skylights, perhaps because of their incompatibility with the activities carried out under them, as they are a significant source of heat and glare.
Thus, the action proposes, on the one hand, to replace the domes of the open skylights with new biconvex polycarbonate domes, with better thermal and fire protection performance. Polyester bases will be maintained unless they need to be replaced because they are found to be in poor condition.
On the other hand, the closed skylight (with polyester base and dome) will be replaced by a traditional deck-type cover, made of a profiled sheet, with two layers of thermal insulation, one of them forming the slope and Comes with a PVC sheet. , On the roof, a metal substructure would be fixed to hold the other new domes on top of it, thus emulating the original skylights and maintaining the building’s architectural character.
Similarly, a slope formation layer will be laid using a final layer of thermal insulation (rigid panel of high-density mechanized rock wool) of variable thickness and the waterproofing sheet will be replaced with a new PVC sheet.
Modern and Unique Architecture
building of Ubermin Clinic It was built during 1968–1974. Designed by Navarrese Architect Fernando Redon HuiciOne of the most unique pieces of 20th-century Navarre architecture.
Due to its uniqueness and architectural value, it was included in the fall of 2019 on the list of the Docomomo organization, in charge of highlighting architecture related to the Modern Movement internationally. Likewise, the General Directorate of Culture-Principe de Viana Institution has included it in its list. While this does not give legal protection to the building, it does highlight the concern to highlight and protect its architecture in a certain way.
From its conception, the clinic’s destiny was to become a trauma and care centre. This results in a separation into two volumetric and perceptually distinct volumes: the tower and the lower body (the object of this action). This counterpoint is taken to the extreme round, giving the building-tower a closed and heavy character, as if it were a fortress (as was used before in its architecture); And the lower body gives off a light, translucent air with a “sea” of domes that covers its entire roof.
Improvement of access road and expansion of parking
In turn, in the last quarter of the year, Salud plans to complete the improvement works. Clinic Road from the crossing of fountain walk for the clinic itself, setting up a pedestrian crossing that will connect the city elcano with the center. Currently, the access has a low surface layer, with cracks and no pavement.
Road improvement works will be charged from the general budget government of Navarre, The project has been carried out by the architecture studio OFS Architects for an amount of 558,903.01 (VAT included).
In addition, the existing parking lot of the clinic is also going to be expanded towards the South-West area 65 new locations, This work stems from the current need to increase parking spaces for the clinic’s users. The project is being implemented by Ardi Ingenieros SL
