ACTIVITY Cycling aka riding has become popular since the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Even in a superpower country like the United States, cycling is not only for sports needs but can be an alternative for recreation or contemporary tourism which is certainly beneficial for body health.

Gowes has become an activity trend that combines sports and recreation because in addition to maintaining health, it also socializes with the community.

During the pandemic, more and more people are riding bicycles as an alternative means of daily transportation to avoid crowds. Of course cycling is a way to maintain the health of the family.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Alue Dohong supports cycling activities as a tourist facility, one of which is the ‘Explore Gunung Kidul’ activity.

According to him, the ‘Explore Gunung Kidul’ activity, besides improving health, also contributes to the earth for low emissions.

“With the ride, we will reduce emissions so that our earth is better and the air quality is cleaner, the sky remains blue,” he said when releasing the participants of the ‘Explore Gunungkidul’ ride, Saturday, September 17, 2022.

He hopes that in the future this riding activity can be transformed into an activity that is increasingly loved by the people of Indonesia.

“So that we can realize Indonesia with low emissions, clean air and blue skies,” he said.

According to him, it is very important that this cycling activity be brought to the attention of the central and regional governments.

“One of them is by having a special bicycle track or lane, so it doesn’t mix with other vehicles, like now,” he explained.

Alue recounted his experience, while living for four years in Brisbane, Australia. Where cyclists are a respected part of the transportation ecosystem.

“There, cyclists and pedestrians have the most respect for the tracks, because the tracks are neat and safe. Unlike in Indonesia, where car or motorcycle drivers often honk their horns. They are considered to be a nuisance to traffic,” he said.

He also encouraged each region to facilitate cycling activities. “So if you are cycling safely and comfortably, the community is healthy, the economy will also be healthy,” he said.
