Las Israel Defense Forces released information about the recent military operations carried out by the 36th Division in the Gaza Strip, focusing especially on the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.
These operations were characterized by intense encounters against hundreds of security operatives. Hamas as well as the discovery of weapons and terrorist structures in civilian locations.
The 36th Division, composed of infantry, tank and combat engineer forces, focused its efforts against the Zeitoun battalion in Hamas, which operates in the neighborhood of the same name. According to military assessments, Hamas operates in cells of between five and ten armed men. The Israeli military estimates that they have eliminated hundreds of terrorists in this area so far.
The IDF indicated that the fighting in Zeitoun, which followed the capture of the fields of Shati and the neighborhood of Sabra, could last at least 72 hours. Afterwards, Israeli forces will continue to work to dismantle all remaining terrorist infrastructure in the area.
In a statement, the FDI highlight the role of the Golani Infantry Brigade in these clashes, citing the combat arms against Hamas in residences, hospitals, schools and other civil places. Brigadier General Dado Bar Kalifa, commander of the 36th Division, highlighted the tactics of Hamas to use civilians as human shields, highlighting the challenges their troops face in urban combat.
Likewise, the FDI report that the 188th Armored Brigade captured some important locations in the Hamas in Zeitoun, including the offices of the head of the brigade Hamas in Gaza City. During these operations, many weapons were found and destroyed, and the group’s strategic installations were destroyed.
The Bislamach Brigade of FDI, specialized in professional training and squad commanders, dismantled an Islamic Jihad complex, found heavy and long rockets. In addition, the 36th Division coordinated several airstrikes in Zeitoun, which identified and destroyed a rocket manufacturing laboratory, a drone, and a hidden tunnel in a mosque in the neighborhood.
