‘We were always going to have Kate as a middle name’: Helen Skelton names newborn daughter Elsie after her ‘crazy and cool’ cousin who tragically died in her 20s
Countryfile host Helen Skelton has revealed that her child’s middle name is a tribute to a cousin who died in her 20s.
The former Blue Peter presenter gave birth to a baby girl named Elsie Kate on December 28.
Skelton, 38, already shares six-year-old son Ernie and four-year-old Louis with rugby league player husband Richie Myler, 31.

He said hello! Magazine: ‘We were always going to have Kate as a middle name after our cousin, who sadly passed away when we were in our 20s.
‘I was really close to her, she was a scientist and crazy cool.’
The baby outperformed his brothers at birth, reaching 7lb 8oz – a fact that surprised Skelton, who had expected him to be small.
She said: ‘Louis was just 5.6lb and Ernie was 7lb. I thought she would be small, but she is my biggest bubba.’

Skelton also denied that he had tried for a third child in the hopes of having a daughter, admitting that ‘that was not the case for us.’
“We just wanted more kids and we wanted surprises,” she said.
Despite deciding not to find out the sex of the baby before birth, Skelton painted the nursery pink.
She said: ‘I was sure I had a girl. Now I’m totally embracing pink. With a rugby player and two wild boys, my world is full of testosterone.’

Back in September, the actress revealed that her due date was New Year’s Eve as she discussed her third pregnancy on Lorraine.
The Countryfile star explained how her husband was hoping she wouldn’t give birth early like he did with their last two children because he would miss Christmas.
When asked by Lorraine on the show about her due date, she replied: ‘New Year’s Eve. The other two were early and my husband keeps asking if we can’t have Christmas because he missed the last one.
‘I said okay, you have dinner, then I’ll sit there with my legs up!’
