Helps fight corona ‘OAS-1’ protein

OTTAWA: A protein inherited from primitive humans can help patients fight the corona virus, according to new research. The research is published in Nature Medicine.

This research concludes that this protein, called ‘OAS1’, can save patients from diseases that require a ventilator. Not only that, if the amount of this protein in the body is high, the risk of death from corona can be very low. Brent Richards, a lead author of the research and affiliated with the Lady Davis Institute in Canada, said: During the research, the researchers discovered a useful protein called ‘OAS1’ in the blood.

What proteins can help fight corona, the researchers said? There were many problems in finding this out. Protein levels were increased in 14,134 corona patients who participated in the research. This made them less likely to be hospitalized, put on a ventilator, or die.

When the protein levels in the bodies of about 504 patients were measured, it was found that the increase in the amount of the protein ‘OAS1’ had strengthened the patients to fight against corona infection.
