Hertl scored in Game 4 of the series, beating the Sharks 2-1

SAN JOSE, California (AP) – Thomas Hertl scored in his fourth game, James Reimer made 34 saves on return, and the San Jose Sharks beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Saturday night.

Now Gertl has scored six goals in his last four games, and Eric Carlsson has scored one goal in his second game in the last seven games and led the way for the Sharks. Reimer had missed the previous five games due to an injury at the bottom.

“We found a way to win,” Carlsson said. “Reims played great again for us and everyone came on the field when needed. I think this victory will give us peace of mind and confidence in the future. “

Michael Raffl scored the only goal for the Stars, who went 0-3 on the road after winning the previous seven games. Braden Holtby made 23 saves.

“It’s probably the best road game we’ve played in a whole year,” coach Rick Bouness said. “We limited them and we just couldn’t score,” he said. But we did a lot of good things tonight. … I play this game all year round and it was a very good game.

Gertl started in the middle of the first half when Timo Meyer’s shot was deflected from Holtby.

Carlsson continued his strong game, beating Holtby at the end of the second half, scoring the most goals in four seasons at San Jose for his eighth goal of the season.

“He’s really been the catalyst for our offense lately, and he and Tommy are taking responsibility,” coach Bob Bogner said. “It simply came to our notice then. He has the ability to destroy us to the end and he hits the puck much better. ”

Raffl scored in the middle of the third half, but the stars were unable to equalize.

“We had a lot of opportunities,” striker Jamie Benn said. “It’s definitely a positive thing,” he said. If you don’t have that opportunity, you start to doubt what is better to do. But today we had opportunities. Their goalkeeper played well. We couldn’t find a way to get the second one. ”

KEY’S DEBUT

Sharks striker Evander Kane made his AHL debut on Saturday and scored five goals for Barracuda, who lost 5-1 to Abbotsford Kanuks. Kane was sent to the AHL after being disqualified for 21 games for handing over a fake COVID-19 vaccination card.

San Jose has said he has no plans to invite Kane to the NHL, despite having a $ 7 million contract a year, but the Sharks are hoping to find a trading partner for the player, who scored 22 goals in 56 games last season.

BYE-BYE BISOP

Dallas Stars goalkeeper Ben Bishop has retired due to a degenerative condition in his right knee, CEO Jim Neill said.

The stars remembered Bishop from his conditioning assignment with the AHL Texas stars as he allowed him to score eight goals in 34 shots in his single game. The 35-year-old is on the bench with a long-term injury and is due to speak to reporters on Tuesday.

In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Nill said: “Eventually, by going through the process, going there and playing, he learned that this was the end of his career.”

Bishop’s $ 29.5 million six-year contract runs through the 2022-23 season.

NOTES

Star striker Rup Hintz was scratched with a non-COVID-19 disease. … Sharks F Kevin Labanc left in the first half with a hard blow from Dallas D Jani Kakanpaa.
