High school: Broadalbin-Perth boys’ football advances to Class B semifinals

Broadalbin-Perth registered a 3-0 win against Shalmont in the Class II Class B boys’ soccer quarter-finals on Friday. Sam Rogers scored each for Broadbin-Perth, while Nick Bianco and Alex Rogers each provided assists.

Niscayuna defeated Saratoga Springs 3–0 in the Section II Class AA quarterfinals. Matt Styles scored two goals and Papa Nadiye made five saves in the shutout.

Shenendhova took the lead after beating Albany 2-1. Each goal of the game was scored in the final 11 minutes, and Lochlen Clark scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Max Sheehan with 90 seconds to go into regulation.

Sa Clare Moo had a goal and an assist that helped Albany Academy’s 2–1 double-overtime win against Burnett Hills-Bolston Lakes in the Class II Class A quarter-finals. Finn Conway scored the game winning goal.

In the Section II Class D quarterfinals, OESJ scored two goals from Andrew Snell in a 4–0 win against North Warren.

BLESI Lifts BH-BL

Ella Blasey scored both goals for Burnt Hills-Bolston Lake and a 2–1 win against Scotia-Glanville in the Class II girls’ soccer tournament quarterfinals. Sage Luke scored the Scotia-Glanville goal. Amelia Caraldi made seven saves in a win and Courtney Clarke with seven saves in a loss.

Courtney Busch, Hannah Bachorich, Matty Swann, and Sarah Leclerc scored in Mohnasen’s 4–3 double-overtime win against South Glens Falls. Leclerc had the goal to win the game. Bush also had two assists, while Leclerc and Olivia Andriola each had one assist. Vanessa Jorgensen scored two goals for South Glens Falls.

Mary Gaylord scored two goals in Avril Park’s 4–0 win against Lansingburgh. Michelina Lombardi scored four goals in the shutout.

Queensbury topped Amsterdam 8–2 in the quarter-finals of the Class II girls’ football tournament. Brigitte Duffy had three goals and one assist, while teammate Bailey Duffy had two goals and one assist. Anne Stanavich and Madison Meka scored a goal each for Amsterdam.

In a first round game of the Class II Class C girls’ football tournament, Stillwater defeated Galway 2–0. Elliot Pettenaud scored both goals for Stillwater, while Mia Corraro scored four goals in the shutout. Hannah French makes 15 saves for Galway.

Shohri won 8–0 against Hadley-Luzern. Katie Krohn scored four goals, and Haley Drinen recorded two goals and one assist. For Hadley-Luzern, Madison Lent made 21 saves.

Alayna Fletcher had one goal and two assists in Maple Hill’s 3–1 win against Cambridge.

Edison Galusky had two goals, Cassidy McClement had one goal and one assist, and Imani Bloomfield scored one in Waterford-Halfmoon’s 4–0 win against Burnt-Knox-Westerlo.

Stillwater beat Galway 2-0. Elliot Pettenaud scored both goals for Stillwater, while Mia Corraro scored four goals in the shutout. Hannah French makes 15 saves for Galway.

Shaker Rolls

Shaker scored a 42–0 section Class AA football victory against Bethlehem. Kyle Yusuf scored two touchdowns. The season saw the Shakers improve to 7–0.

Guilderland topped CBA 17-7 in a Section II Class AA game. Ty SantaBarbara ran for a touchdown and passed for another in the win. The teams were tied 7-7 in the fourth quarter.

David Romer scored four touchdowns in Colombia’s 24-6 Section II Class A win against Troy.

In a Section II Class A game that saw multiple touchdowns in each quarter, Queensbury topped Bolston Spa 41–32. Zion Freeman scored four touchdowns for Queensbury and ran for 247 yards, while Darien Insogna of Bolston Spa sprinted for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Ballston Spa took a 14–7 lead after one quarter, but Queensbury scored 14 unanswered points in the second quarter and never fell behind despite Bolston Spa reducing the Spartans’ lead to three points or three chances in the second half. Giovanni DiCaprio and Owen Hicks scored two touchdowns in Fonda-Fultonville’s 47–0 Section II Class C win against Mechanicville. DiCaprio had a touchdown in the 91-yard run, while Hicks had a 63-yard interception on the return. DiCaprio ran for 127 yards of play, while Conor Weaver passed for a touchdown and had a receiving score.

The Johnstown football team lost 27–14 against Cobbleskill-Richmondville in a Section II Class C matchup at Knox Field.

In a Section II Class D matchup, Helderberg Valley won 20–0 against Cohos. Tyler Bush ran for two touchdowns.

Shenendova won the thriller

In a five-set suburban council boys’ volleyball match, Shenendová defeated Colombia 17–25, 26–24, 25–13, 22–25, 15–12. Nick Barres led the plainsman with 35 assists, while Cade Bernardi contributed 16 digs, Nick Pascual contributed 14 kills and Bennett Wilson added 11 kills. For Columbia, Jeremy Garrigan made 40 assists, Carter Durievage committed 18 kills, and Henry Heaps contributed a dozen kills.

Burn Hills-Bolston Lake defeated Colony 25-20, 25-16, 25-19. Aidan Calhoun led the Spartans with 26 assists, while Gavin Sweet contributed 21 digs, Liam Calhoun contributed 11 kills, Ben Pearce added eight kills and Harrison Keena added seven kills.

Mechanicville won in 5 sets

Mechanicville topped the Saratoga Catholic 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22 in the Wasseren League girls’ volleyball match. Hailey Phelps scored 11 goals, Jenna Tesorio made 17 assists and Makayla Blake made six kills in the win. For the Saratoga Catholic, Jacqueline Fornabia had committed eight murders.

Waterford-Halfmoon Cambridge topped 25-10, 25-17, 25-14. In the victory, Kelly Penick had seven assists, and Skyler Kennedy had nine assists. For Cambridge, Maddie Phillips had five assists.

At a meeting of the Foothills Council rivals, the Gloversville girls’ volleyball team won a 25-5, 23-25, 25-8, 25-11 win against Amsterdam on Friday. For Gloversville, Elie Salvion had 18 assists, Zoey Tessy had 11 kills and Jackie Rattray had 10 digs.

Scotia-Glenville beat Johnstown 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. In the win, Grace Letterman led with 12 assists and eight aces, while Mia Wood added a dozen assists. For Jonestown, Tiana Frazier had 10 assists, eight aces and seven digs, while Camille Gray contributed four digs.

Colombia sweep team title

The Columbia boys’ and girls’ cross country events won team titles at the Rensselaer County Meet at Grafton Lake State Park. La Salle’s Gitch Hess won the boys’ individual title with a time of 14:13.03 for the 2.7-mile course, while Colombia’s Shia Fagen won the girls’ race in 17:25.22. In the boys’ race, Colombia’s Nathan Davis and Jacob Yannon came second and third, respectively, while in the girls’ race, Sofia Squire of Hussick Valley came second and Avril Park’s Logan Barslow finished third.

Burke, Griffin win

At the Albany County Meet at Colony’s Crossing, Leonie Griffin of Shaker won the girls’ race with a time of 14:53.18 for the 2.5-mile course, and Finn Burke of Guilderland won the boys’ race in 13:08.00.

The team championships in this event belonged to the Bethlehem girls’ team and the Guilderland boys’ team.
