High School Roundup: Runyon Drops Season-High 37 Points

A dominant performance from Hill Murray’s Ella Runyon carried them to a 75-52 win in girls basketball Tuesday over Hastings (10-5).

Runyon dropped a season-high 37 points to lead the Pioneers. Her closest teammate, Maya Giese, scored 8. It’s the third time this season that Runyon has scored more than 30 points. The game remained tight through the first half, with Hill-Murray holding just a five point lead. However, a 45-point second half outburst led to a comfortable win for the Pioneers.

Other scores: Eagan defeated Lakeville South 62-45; Mahtomedi defeated Simley 74-45; Rosemount defeated Lakeville North 60-45; Highland Park defeated Harding 45-42.

Eastview 71, Farmington 68: Kenji Scales scored 16 and Dylan Omweno and Jamal Ambrose each added 12 as Eastview (12-2) beat Farmington (8-6).

The game went back and forth all night. The Lightning held a 36-33 lead at halftime but the teams continued to trade the lead back and forth until late. Farmington was propelled by Baiden Bean and Kyle Hrncir. The duo combined for 41 points.

Other scores: Hastings defeated Hill-Murray 62-60; Mahtomedi defeated Simley 57-51; Burnsville defeated Prior Lake 71-68; Rosemount defeated Lakeville North 67-64; South St. Paul defeated North St. Paul 81-59; Highland Park defeated Harding 74-65.

Stillwater 3, Cretin-Derham Hall 2: Josie Lang scored five minutes into overtime to lift Stillwater (12-7-2) over Cretin-Derham Hall (14-6-2) in what was a scrappy game throughout.

The teams combined for 16 penalties in what proved to be a very physical game. Stillwater jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Alexa March and Josie St. Martin, however Cretin-Derham Hall responded with two goals in a two-minute span in the opening moments of the third period. The game was tied from there until Lang netted the overtime winner, her ninth goal of the season.

With the win, Stillwater sits just one point behind Roseville in the South Suburban standings. The loss drops third place Cretin-Derham Hall three points behind Stillwater.

Other scores: South St. Paul defeated Hastings 2-0; Simley defeated Two Rivers/St. Paul 6-1; East Ridge defeated Woodbury 5-3.

Lakeville North 3, Rosemount 0: Senior goaltender Finn Jacques stopped 37 shots to earn the shutout as Lakeville North (13-3-0) won the battle of the top two teams in the South Suburban conference.

The Panthers played with a lead for nearly the entire night as Luke Poehling opened up the scoring four minutes into the game. With a minute left, Kyle Doll scored on the power play to extend the lead.

Griffin Kranz scored the third and final goal with seven minutes remaining in the second period.
Jacques’ 37 saves is his season high.

Rosemount (9-6-1), drops three points behind Lakeville North.

Other scores: Mahtomedi defeated Tartan 6-1; Lakeville South defeated Apple Valley 5-0.
