All three Section II field hockey champions advanced to next weekend’s NYSPHSAA semifinals in their respective classifications with field victories at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School on Sunday.
Shendehowa beat previously undefeated Baldwinsville 2–0 in Class A on a pair of first-quarter goals from Molly Miller. Brianna Anslow made nine saves to secure a shutout for the plainsmen (17-2 on aggregate), who will take on Mamaronek in the state semi-finals at Centre’s High School on Saturday.
Burn Hills-Bolston reached the last four of Class A with a 3–1 win over Lake Holland Patent. Jocelyn Hild and Caroline Kogut each had a goal and an assist for Burne Hills, while Amelia Landry also found the back of the net.
In Class C, Husick Falls advanced with a 3–2 win over Canastota. Emma McCart scored two goals for Hussick Falls and Gwyn Vincent scored once.
Shenendehova wins D1 swim title
Shenendhowa scored only one event win, with eighth grader Sofia Gao’s victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, but it went on to promote deep plainsman to the team’s victory in their home pool at the Shenendhowa Aquatic Center in Section II Division 1. was more than enough. Shenandoahova finished with 408 team points. Niscauna was second with 342, Burn Hills/Scotia (317) in third, Bethlehem (293) and Saratoga Springs (197) in fourth round out the top five in a day where a Section II record and multiple pool records Shattered.
Burnt Hills/Scotia won five events, and got off to a great start when the quartet of Ally Frame, Kendall Gilbert, Tia Jacks and Kasie Owens broke an 8-year-old Section II record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time. of 1:46.78.
Frame also won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, setting a new pool record of 56.05 seconds in the latter event, and Owens won the 50 free. The Burn Hills/Scotia team of Owens, Frame, Jami Fusson and Lucy Catalano with the Niscauna team of Abby Lyons, Helen Hao, Isabel Nelson and Grace Roberts ended in a dead heat in the 400 free relay finale.
Rachel Love of Saratoga Springs won both the 200 and 500 freestyle events, a pool record of 4:57.23 in the 500. Competition. Bethlehem also set a pool record in the 200 free relay of 1:39.66 with the team of Madeleine Ferreira, Catherine Ferreira, Sarah Bernasconi and Hannah Fronheiser.
