High School: Stillwater Charges in Class D Super Bowl

Stillwater earned their place in the Section II Class D football championship game, scoring 25 unanswered points in a 31–12 win over Warrensburg/North Warren/Bolton in the semifinal contest at Schuylerville High School on Saturday.

Jackson Mueller scored the first two touchdowns for Stillwater (7–1 on aggregate), as the two teams traded first-half touchdowns. Mueller answered Tim Kelly’s 6-yard run with a 9-yard reception from Colby Paffen, then scored on a 4-yard run when Dylan Winchell’s 28-yard run hit Warrensburg/North Warren/Bolton 12-6 Gave an edge.

In the second half, Gavin Baker’s 10-yard run put Stillwater in front for a score from Caleb Dyer before a 66-yard fumble return and CJ McNeil’s 33-yard scoring run capped the win.

Stillwater, the Class D South Division champions, will take on North Division champion Greenwich at the Class D Super Bowl in Schuylerville next Saturday.

The undefeated Greenwich (9-0) registered a 48-20 win over Chatham in the second semi-final on Saturday. Colin Hughes and Jesse Kuzmitch each had a pair of touchdown runs for the Witches.

Also on Saturday, Ravenna-Koymans-Selkirk became the sixth Road team to win this weekend’s Section II semi-final, defeating Glens Falls 35-28 to earn a spot in the Class B Super Bowl against Gloversville.

The Ravenna–Koymans–Selkirk victory turned the table for the Glens Falls team, which had won 42–0 when the two teams met seven days earlier.

OESJ race ends in penalty kicks

The OESJ boys’ football team played out a 1–1 draw with Mount Academy of Section IX in the Division D regional final at Newburgh Free Academy, with Mount Academy leading 7–6 on a penalty kick.

OESJ (15-3-1 on aggregate) took an early lead when Mason Snell scored with an assist from Andrew Snell. Wolves held the lead until two minutes into regulation, when Mount Academy eventually leveled.

After 30 minutes of overtime saw neither team score the golden goal, the right to advance to the state semi-finals was decided by a penalty kick. Each team scored its first six shots from the penalty spot, but OESJ missed the seventh round and was converted to advance to the Mount Academy state tournament.
