A high school teacher from Orlando, Florida, has been accused of inappropriately filming and touching several female students, according to official sources.
Javier Fernandez Romero-Gonzalez The Innovation Middle School teacher, 45, was arrested for inappropriately touching students and engaging in indecent conduct while acting as an official person for a teacher, according to an Orlando police report.
According to the police, two girls were the main targets, but more than half a dozen students told very similar and disturbing stories about this teacher.
The teacher’s investigation began on April 12 and led to a message from the headmaster stating that “an employee of our school has been placed on administrative leave due to allegations of misconduct.”
According to the press, Romero was a Spanish teacher before being fired from the center following accusations by some of his students.
Orlando police said at least seven testified about the man’s behavior with girls in his class, which police described as “grooming”.
The main allegations include inappropriately touching the hips, buttocks, shoulders, but he was also accused of suspiciously recording several students and frequently hugging them.
In some student statements, he described Romero as “vulnerable” and said that “the classroom was not a safe place,” because crimes had occurred within that space.
The Orange County School District confirmed that “the families of Innovation Middle School were notified at that time, and the employee has not returned to campus pending the results of the internal and law enforcement investigation.”
Romero-Gonzalez was being held in the Orange County Jail on a $40,000 bond on two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct and two counts of lewd conduct with authority, all felonies.
Several Florida teachers have been accused of sexually assaulting students in recent months. In days gone by, Eric Bernard Givens, 29, was arrested on seven charges Seven counts of indecent and lewd child abuse, assault and one count of crimes against students by authority figures.
Earlier, a Miami-Dade jury found the former Miami Palmetto Senior High School teacher guilty of Sexual offenses against a former underage student.
The defendant, Jason Meyers, was found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a minor by a person with custodial authority. The former student alleged that in 2015, when she was 17 years old and Meyers was her English teacher, he abused her in class.
