It had all the makings of a pitcher’s duel with All-Stars Walker Bühler and German Marquez on the mound. Instead, it was anything but, as the teams combined for 19 hits, including three homers and even a two-run double from Marquez, who chased his counterpart out of the game.
Luke Raleigh demonstrated his prowess in the third inning by drilling a two-run homer in the center, which was measured by Statcast at 472 feet. It tied for the third-longest run of Dodgers tracked by Statcast since 2015.
A major collision occurred in the seventh when Charlie Blackmon collided with reliever Alex Vesia on the dribbler at the first base line. Blackmon’s helmet blew off and Vesia, losing control of the baseball, fell to the ground. Blackmon arrived at an error credited to Vesia, who took some warmup pitchers before continuing.
Vesiya was not the same. He gave a run scoring double to Krone. Hilliard later connected for a three-run homer when the Dodgers deliberately drove Elias Diaz to pass him. Hilliard’s 12th homer of the season made it 10-5.
One innings after the collision, Blackman came up again and collided with a pitch from Evan Phillips.
Robert Stephenson (2-1) scored the win for the Rockies, who are 6-12 this season against the Dodgers. Dodgers reliever Justin Bruehl (0-1) lost the match.
