Roo.- The municipal president, Juanita Alonso Marrufo led the event in which the report on the outcome of the Water Quality Monitoring Program for the hydrological management of the Island of Cozumel was released, which according to experts from the Yucatan Scientific Research Center (CICY), in the case of urban cenotes in an average state between good and regular, therefore they also identified the urgent measures that will be used for health.

In his presentation of the reasons, the deputy director of Ecology, Germán Yáñez Mendoza, confirmed that the flow of water is something that few people take care of and preserve, despite the fact that we all depend on it, since it is liquid under us. soil, not visible and consequently not important for the past governments, however this 2021-2024 administration of the governor Iohanita Alonso Marrufo, took this problem as a priority, ordering to have a better culture and water care.

Historically and for the first time on the island, the Basin Committee was installed, which has the power to carry out diagnoses and management plans, as well as policies that allow for the correct management and care of running, involving responsible water. the monitoring for which a unique and historic project was carried out, which consisted of urban cenotes, at the moment of 36 of these aquifer systems, 10 of which were in urgent need of sanitation.

When the director of the Water Sciences United Center of Scientific Research of Yucatan (CECY), Antonio Almazán Becerril, announced the results of the state of the cenotes of the island through a study carried out in ten of these systems, where according to the light traffic conditions that go from bad to very good, Cozumel is between good and regular . “It is a critical place due to the high presence of indicators of faecal origin, which are not specific to the island, but to many places on the peninsula,” he said.

For this reason, he recognized the activities undertaken by the Vatican Council, such as the environmental education program, field work with children and young people, environmental law permits, the Basin Committee, the restoration of funds, sanctions, coordination with other levels; the information of expeditions and scientific investigations, which must be reinforced.

This event was also attended by the researcher of the Chairs of National Nations, Science and Technology Commission CICY, Eduardo Cejudo Espinosa; the technical secretary of the Council of State, Eduardo Sánchez Aguilar, as well as councilors of the Vatican Council, where it was announced that these works will benefit the entire population of the island and visitors, when the water flows so that if we take care of it or pollute it. it hit all the houses.
