Honduran Ruiz and Venezuelan Martinez lead Miami to upset win against Revolution

David Ruiz scored a goal and provided an assist for Josep Martinez’s goal, which meant the advantage, in a duel in which Inter Miami beat conference leader New England Revolution 2-1 against all odds on Saturday.

Honduran Ruiz gave the Florida team an early lead, receiving a pass from Ecuadorian Leonardo Campana to score after 6 minutes. It was the first career goal for the 19-year-old rookie midfielder.

Ruiz’s brilliant night ended badly with a red card.

Inter went into halftime with a 2-1 lead after a goal from Martinez in the 44th minute. It was the Venezuelan’s third annotation of the season.

Ruiz received a second yellow and red card after 81 minutes. But Inter became the third team in league history to win three games after suffering six consecutive losses.

Miami’s such response has placed it in the playoff zone with 15 points, sixth in the Eastern Conference.

New England was stuck at the top of the conference with 24 units, the same as Cincinnati, which was resting on the day.
