You may have heard the saying that it’s not time management that bothers us – it’s choice management.
We all have the same amount of time in a day. So if we’re not working, the problem isn’t that we don’t have enough time. The problem is that we are not making good choices about the way we spend our time. With that in mind, I thought I’d share some tips I picked up from CEOs I connect with on a daily basis. If you really want to create the best schedule to maximize efficiency, you’ll want to do the following.
stick to a routine
Every high-yield CEO I know has a set routine. They go to bed at the same time; They wake up at the same time. They start and finish work around the same time. Yes, you want to be flexible enough that you can disrupt your routine when needed, but generally, the best way to manage work so that things don’t get cluttered is to have a fairly predictable schedule.

Schedule Your Week As Much As You Can
A Harvard Business Review (HBR) study concluded that CEOs are pre-scheduled 75 percent of the time. And the CEO set more than half of those programs himself. It can seem tedious – coming up with a routine and planning for almost every hour of the day – but if you want to be efficient, you don’t want to spend a good part of the day wondering what you should do next. you already know.
leave room for flexibility
As noted in the HBR study, CEOs still have a quarter of their time left unplanned. You need it for smooth conversation. The meetings go on. Problems may emerge. Opportunities arise. If you’re overscheduled, you probably don’t have time to actually run your business; Instead your business is driving you. You need to brainstorm and innovate every week or read an interesting article and do things that will advance your business, such as connecting and collaborating with colleagues and mentors.
We all have times when, thanks to a chance encounter, we learn about new business opportunities or strategies. However, these meetings will not happen if you do not give them a chance.
surround yourself with a good team
Obvious advice, but I apologize for not mentioning it. You want to be able to delegate your work to your team as much as possible so that you can handle tasks that no one else can or shouldn’t do.

Another characteristic I notice among successful CEOs is that they are very disciplined and generally well rounded. Some leaders, of course, are all work and no play. But the best of them get a full night’s sleep, eat nutritious foods, exercise, read, take vacations and re-experience life and talk to a wide range of people.
All these “rules” are connected. When you have a subpar team, you are going to create more work for yourself and for your entire company. By ignoring your health, eventually, the bad health decisions you’ve made day after day, year after year, will take hold of you, and you’ll have to delegate all of your work to everyone else. If you neglect your family life for the sake of your work, you will realize one day that you have lost something that you can never get back. If you don’t come to resent a business you’re proud of, your family will.
The way to be the best CEO is to take control of your schedule and create the healthiest work-life balance possible. Meanwhile, if you can’t fit into your time doing things you know are important, like developing relationships with other people or getting a good night’s sleep or taking the occasional vacation with your family, you probably You are not in as good a place for success as you could be.
True, we all have our limits, and it’s not possible to have the right work-life balance all the time. You may have an elderly parent to take care of, or a sick child, or a huge project with your company that is going to demand all your attention and free time. When those things happen, don’t beat yourself up. do the best you can. Things will work out eventually.
But when life is less hectic, the best way to make the most of it is to treat your schedule like an employee’s. Be disciplined and make sure your schedule is working for you exactly as it should.
