In order to address the immigration crisis at the southern border, particularly following the end of Title 42, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has implemented a six-pronged plan to stop illegal border crossings.
Among these pillars, the development and use of a new mobile application stands out: CBP One, with which the government aims to reduce processing times at the various ports of entry along the border.
What is the CBP One app?
According to DHS officials, the CBP One app is intended for immigrants seeking asylum in the United States or entering the country on humanitarian parole. This allows interested parties – undocumented immigrants – to submit their information in advance without having to go directly to a port of entry, allowing the user to demonstrate that they meet certain vulnerability criteria.
In this way, users are scheduled an appointment for the inspection, which speeds up the admission process to the USA even if you do not have the relevant documents.
How long do CBP One appointments take?
There is no exact answer to this question, as most appointments are released randomly, while the rest are released to the users who have waited the longest. Therefore, there are those who only need a few weeks while others take months to get an appointment.
According to the Washington Post, the average time it takes to make an appointment is currently four to six weeks. However, due to random assignment, some cases may span months. According to Cuban migrants, there are people who have waited between one and three months for an appointment.
