Duration and prices of a career as a police officer
There are two basic training courses for entering the police force, for both women and men. Each of them has different costs and duration.
- Officers: Training to become an officer as a high school graduate takes three years. If you are already a professional and want to get started, the training period is 1 year. The final cost in both cases is 10,621,451 COP, including tuition, enrollment and tuition fees for 2023.
- Patrol Officers: The duration of the course is 1 year and the total investment of the student is 7,493,451 COP.
Can career paths qualify for entry into the police force?
In each of the above cases, it is possible to present the final certificate to recognize the studies carried out in educational institutions outside the institution. Postgraduate degrees can be submitted for officers, but you must be under 35 years old to take part in the training courses.

Average salary of a police officer in Colombia 2023
Depending on your rank, you may receive a higher salary. A general, the highest position of an officer, earns 22,606,540 COP and the second lieutenant, who ranks last, earns 2,398,744 COP.
Patrol officers, on the other hand, will receive a salary of COP 2,103,359 for 2023.
Requirements for taking part in the police course
The National Police has modified and updated the requirements it requires of Colombians to join the institution. Although some of these are completely excluded, there are other conditions such as: B. Tattoos, which may impact your selection process depending on certain specifications.
These are the requirements you must meet to apply for a career in the police:
- I am a native Colombian.
- He has not been criminally convicted nor has he been officially linked to any investigation into human rights violations.
- No current disciplinary or tax records available.

- Be at least 17 years old, six months old, provided you reach the age of majority in the first semester of training, and up to the age of 27 at the time of entry into the training school.

- Do not participate in any criminal, disciplinary or tax investigation or investigation.
- Single or married, each with up to one child.
- For men serving as police auxiliaries in the military, a minimum period of service must be 50% of the time established by law at the time of entry into the training school. Because their military service is voluntary, women can register with the state police at any time.
- ICFES score of at least 40 points (in critical reading, mathematics, language and social sciences) or equivalent score on the Saber 11 tests or academic average of at least 3.8 (scale from 0 to 5). or an equivalent).
