Twitter’s default search function can be great for looking for consensus on a topic or finding an account; However, it’s not as good when trying to search a single tweet, thread, or entire Twitter history.
That’s where advanced search comes in handy. Available on the Twitter website, Advanced Search allows you to search for Tweets that contain certain words, were sent on specific dates, or were written by specific users. That last feature is arguably the most important: It lets you search through a single user’s Tweets to find any Tweet they’ve ever sent.
In addition to letting you see if your favorite users have tweeted about a topic you’re interested in, disinformation experts also use this feature to weed out fraud. For example, if you see a screenshot of something a celebrity allegedly tweeted, you can use Advanced Find to see if they really wrote it.
Here’s how to find anything in someone’s Tweets.
How to find specific tweets in someone’s Twitter history
- go to the page of Twitter Advanced Search.
- A popup window will appear with different types of text boxes. Scroll down to “Accounts,” and in the “From these accounts” field, type in the username of the person whose Tweets you want to search. You must enter your @ [nombre] exact; You will not receive suggestions.
- Scroll back to “Terms” and specify which keywords or phrases you want to search for in that user’s Tweets.
Quick Tip: You can use the “None of these words” field to exclude Tweets that contain them.
- If you wish, scroll down to the “Filter”, “Interaction” and “Date” sections to further refine your search.
- When you’re ready, click “Search” in the upper-right corner to access a page with the results of your search.
Quick Tip: If you want to refine your search, you can return to the Advanced Find page or click the three dots (…) icon on the results page and select Advanced Find and a Can start new query.
