RALEIGH, NC ( Associated Press) — The Carolina Hurricanes lost to goalkeeper Antti Ranta and rookie forward Seth Jarvis in Game 7 of the team’s second-round playoff series against the New York Rangers on Monday night.
Ranta went down in the second period with 4:23, with New York leading 2-0. He took a blow from Rangers Chris Kreider on one side of the crease as he made a stop, then skating to his right, moved to Mika Jibenejad on the other side.
Ranta extended his right leg into a split to make the stop, and almost immediately stepped forward and slid down on the ice. He was eventually helped back onto the bench with the aid of teammates Vincent Trochek and Nino Niedreiter, placing no weight on his right leg.
According to the Hurricanes, 33-year-old Ranta was ruled out for the rest of the game due to a lower body injury.
Rookie Pyotr Kochetkov, who came in Game 2 of the Hurricanes series against Boston when Ranta was out early with an injury, took over and quickly scored a goal to Rangers’ Ryan Strom, a 3–0 deficit to Carolina. gave out. Decisive game of the series.
