An annual report mapping Google Trends to the top searched car brands in 2021 has ranked the top searches. According to Compare the Market, Toyota has emerged as the most searched car maker in the world. The data was collected from 154 countries, of which Toyota topped 47. Apart from this, Hyundai has been named the most searched car manufacturer in India.
According to the list concocted research, second place in the world ranking was secured by BMW, with a total of 29 countries the carmaker was most searched for, followed by Mercedes in third place. The top scorer in the list, Toyota, represented a total of 31 per cent of all searches, which is lower than the South Korean brand’s score in the year 2020, i.e. 34.8 per cent, mentioned in the report.
The likely reason for the decline is the proliferation of other new and emerging brands such as Kia and Tesla. In addition, the popularity enjoyed by electric cars has affected the 2021 rankings as well. The research found that the popularity of electric cars has increased significantly. For example, in the annual report, for the first time, Tesla was seen hovering among the top positions in several countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Austria, Iceland, Madagascar, China and Macau.
Audi has also had a stellar year with its popularity, which has resulted in the brand moving from 6th position in 2020 to 4th in 2021.
