I completely justified September 11, there was no other choice

In the conversation of the program “CNN 50: Evidence of History” the UDI senator, Ivan Moreira refers to commemorating 50 years of the coup d’état.

“I live in a country that is completely divided, a country where there is intense hatred of Chileans for a government that went through the polls and came out by force because the citizens at that time demanded it” said the parliamentarian.

Along these lines, he explained that “we call it a statement (…) On September 11 there are explanations and justifications (…) I see it as a date where the Armed Forces, for which I am very grateful and my generation, too, they saved our lives“.

According to administration of former president Salvador Allende the UDI activist was categorical when pointing that out “What he did was disrespectful and violated the Constitution.” and when they talk about September 11, look, Without Allende, there would have been no Pinochet“.

“When they say to me ‘you justify the hit’, yes, I justify it. It has value for the deaths that occur but another thing came in which they happened human rights violations that we do not want to see, that it took 20 years to discover the shadows of the military government,” he stated.

Likewise, Moreira explained that “I can’t deny the past, I can’t deny the lights that were there, that Chile survived“.
