MIAMI, Florida – Authorities have released the chilling 911 call made by a mother who found her 3-year-old daughter stabbed to death in a North Miami Beach apartment Tuesday morning.
“I just killed my daughter,” the woman, identified by first and last name as 24-year-old Jelissa Baxter, is heard saying.
When asked by the operator how he killed his daughter, Baxter calmly replied, “I tried to strangle her. That didn’t work, so I stabbed her.”
The woman also appeared in court on Wednesday and a judge ruled out the possibility of releasing her on bail.
It also came to light during the hearing that a request was being made by the Immigration Office to keep the woman of Jamaican origin in custody.
Police are investigating the minor’s slaying and the prosecutor’s office has filed charges of first degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
On Wednesday, officials also released the chilling 911 call made by the mother.
what is known about the murder
A spokesman for the North Miami Beach Police Department said officers arrived at the crime scene, located at an apartment complex at 1051 NE 163rd St., around 2 a.m. Tuesday after the same woman called police and reported her daughter being stabbed to death. Accepted.
The identity of the victim has not been revealed yet, but the police report suggests that the 3-year-old girl may have been stabbed to death by her own mother.
Neighbors there expressed their dismay: “It is something sad and unfortunate. Now repentance is useless,” said a neighbor.
Public records show that Baxter was unemployed and had received an eviction notice a few days earlier.
