I will give captaincy to Virat Kohli: Moeen Ali backs Kohli donning Test cap against England for one last time

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has decided to retire himself in the longest format of the game to play under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. The veteran all-rounder, known for his ability to play an aggressive brand of cricket, revealed that Brendon McCullum himself chose to call him up and convinced him to join the Test squad.

Ali, who is a key member of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, revealed the details behind his decision on Sports Today.

Moeen said, “Baz called and said to me, ‘Look, this will suit your type of cricket etc., so yeah,'” Moeen said.

“In my opinion, Ben Stokes is showing that it is okay to play shots and England need a little bit of that. Of course there will be bad days, but there were many bad days that were happening, there were no good days anyway,” Ali talked about the philosophy of running towards danger and not far from it.

When asked about the change in mindset and the failure aspect, the left-hander spoke of looking at the idea from a different point of view.

“In white-ball cricket, even after the 2015 World Cup, our games were also bad. To be honest, we had bad games going on in England in Test cricket. The way we were playing, we were playing so poorly, sometimes it was embarrassing. With this brand of cricket, I know it is a bit extreme at minutes, but it is meant to give a man more confidence to express himself. ,

When asked about India’s captaincy race with Rohit Shama to be fit after testing positive for Covid-19, Ali felt that the cap should be handed over to Virat Kohli.

“Because Virat was the first captain in the last series, I will give him (the captaincy) for this one match. But apparently it is his choice whether he wants to take it or not. He is probably relaxed and happy, his mind probably settled by not being a Test captain. He has experience and to be honest, this is a big series for India.

He revealed that unlike last time, India will be up against a stiff competition and may be the underdogs in the rescheduled game.

Ali said, “If this series had ended last year, India would have won 3-1, but now, I think the way England has played, I think India is a little undercooked because of the lack of cricket in England.” Maybe.”

The all-rounder concluded, “England will be the favourites, if it comes out the way it has played in the last few matches.”

India will take on England in the fifth and final Test match of the 2021 series at Edgbaston on July 1.
