ICBM-fighting missile test-fired at Vandenberg Space Force Base

The US Missile Defense Agency on Sunday, September 12 at Vandenberg Space Force Base near Lompoc, successfully test-fired a defensive missile designed to protect the US against missiles fired by North Korea and Iran.

“Today was another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Space Launch Delta 30 and the Missile Defense Agency,” said Space Launch Delta 30 Commander and Launch Decision Authority Colonel Robert Long. “Once again, the United team demonstrated their distinctive professionalism and ‘do what you can’ attitude to make this a successful test.”

The ground-based midcourse defense system targets intercontinental ballistic missiles.
