ICC T20 Ranking: How many runs in the last three matches, will Babar Azam become Novar One? Learn

New Delhi: Pakistani batsman Babar Azam became the world’s No.1 batsman in ODI rankings on 14 April. Recently, he has jumped from third place to second place in T20 rankings. Babar Azam’s T20 ranking has 844 rating points, while T20’s world No.1 batsman David Malan holds 892 rating points.

That is, Babar is just 48 ratings points behind Malan. There is a close contest between the two. The men’s ranking is updated on Wednesday by the ICC. These rankings are decided based on the recent performance of the players, so will Babar Azam become the world’s No.1 batsman this Wednesday?

The answer may be yes, as on April 25, Babur played a three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe. He has performed well in this. Earlier, when Babur had done well against South Africa, Babar jumped from third place to second place. When Babar was in third place, he had 801 rating points. Babur currently has 844 points. That is, he had scored 43 points after his performance in South Africa.

Weekly updates on rankings

According to the official announcement by the ICC, a weekly system of updating the rankings has been created since March 2021. Under this system, the rankings of women players for each ODI and T20 International are updated on every Tuesday, while for men of all three formats – Tests, ODIs and T20Is – are updated on Wednesday.

These updates include all matches completed to the previous day. However this ranking does not include any matches played on the day of the update. Team rankings are updated as before after every Test series and every ODI and T20I.

The special thing is that English batsman David Malan has not played any T20 series recently. He played the last series against India in March. In such a situation, Babar’s recent performance is full of chances of becoming the No.1 batsman in the T20 rankings.

Babar Azam became the world’s No.1 batsman on 29 October 2018. Babar then scored 68, 45 and 50 runs in three matches against Australia respectively. Babar had then jumped from fifth place to become the world’s No.1 batsman.

While he achieved 896 rating points on 5 May 2019. Babur’s career is the best rating point. It is also important that Babar Azam broke Virat Kohli’s record on 25 April. Babar has completed the fastest 2 thousand runs in the lowest innings. However, it will be interesting to see if Babur beats history by defeating David Malan?
