New Delhi: England have suffered a crushing defeat in the second Test match at the hands of India. After this defeat, the English team has only one way to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Now the England team will have to win the next 2 matches to reach the final. England’s defeat in the second match of the series against India has pushed them to fourth place in the WTC standings.
England now have 67 percentage points. After moving three places, it is known that there has been a fierce competition between the contenders. England were ranked first with 70.2 per cent before their defeat in Chennai.
It is very difficult for England to reach this place in reality. The English team will have to defeat India in each of the last two Tests of the series. However, after winning the first Test of the series, the England team is no less confident. But there is also a fact that this was only the second defeat for India at home since 2013. Defeating India on home grounds is a challenging task. Now the English team has only one equation: England will win the series 3–1.
India advanced to the fourth position in the WTC standings after losing in the first match of the series, but have come second in the points table after their win in the second match. This shows how strong the race is between the last four teams.
India have to win this series to reach the WTC Finals. India have won each of their last 12 series at home. However, England also showed that they are capable of defeating the Indian team in India. Just one more defeat will end India’s hopes of reaching the final.
India has two ways of reaching the finals:
India won 2–1
India won 3–1
This means that if the next two matches are drawn or England wins the series then India’s hopes of reaching the final will end. Whereas if a match is drawn and India wins a match then India will reach the final. If India wins both matches, then surely India will be in the final. At the same time, England will have to win this series. If the next one match is also drawn, then England’s hopes will come back.
What way does Australia have?
India and England draw 1-1
India and England draw 2-2
England win 2-1
