The company IFX Networks, a provider of digital services to the Colombian state, has already recovered at least 50% of computer data that was threatened by a cyberattack that kept several Colombian state institutions at bay on the Internet.
“We confirm that we have already started restoring the first services and are continuing to work to bring all systems back online in the coming days and consequently normalize the provision of the service as quickly as possible,” the technology company explained in a statement. Publication.
On the morning of September 12th, several state websites experienced disruptions. Hours later, it was announced that the company IFXNetwork Colombia had fallen victim to a cyberattack called ransomware (data hijacking).
At least 50 state institutions were affected in their online services. The Supreme Court even had to suspend its online regulations to prevent massive data theft in its trials.
Other affected entities included the Colombian Red Cross, the ICA, the National Inspectorate of Health and the Inspectorate of Industry and Commerce.
“The recovery process of 50% of the data is underway and ready for storage, equivalent to approximately 400 virtual machines,” the Colombian Cyber Emergency Response Team said.
Although the company is moving forward with the process of recovering the information, the State Defense Legal Office is already preparing a civil lawsuit against the organization for allegedly failing to provide clear information about the attack.
“Given the lack of commitment of the company IFX Networks and the failures in the security protocols on the occasion of the cyber attack that occurred, as well as the refusal to provide the information requested by the PMU as indicators of compromise, the malware and the anatomy of the “I have taken administrative action against the company ordered,” said ICT Minister Mauricio Lizcano.
The state’s National Legal Defense Agency is preparing arguments for filing the civil lawsuit against IFX Networks and is exploring the possibility of expanding the lawsuit into the criminal realm.
