Iman Schumpert is still seething after winning this season of Dancing with the Stars earlier this week.
The 2016 NBA champion wrote a heartfelt note of his landmark win in an Instagram post on Wednesday. His victory marks the first time an NBA player has won the show’s championship mirror ball trophy.
“Thanks to everyone who participates in this show, I met incredible people whom I will never forget and never stop hurting!” – posted by Schumpert, who recently played for the Brooklyn Nets. “The fact that I did most of the work throughout the season and then got triumphantly off my feet from this amazing throw, I understood a lot!”
Schumpert praised his upbringing in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, and thanked his competition peers, judges and show producers for pushing him to victory.
Then he expressed his gratitude to his dance coach Daniella Karagach, who, in his words, “forever” will be one of his favorite people.
Karagach also shared his appreciation for Schumpert, writing Friday on Instagram that his “passion, hard work and dedication are unmatched.”
“We stayed in the studio regardless of the hour and worked until you were satisfied with what you saw,” she said. “We were tired, bruised, injured, and that did not stop you. I am really so proud of you and proud to call you my lifelong friend. “
Karagach praised Schumpert for his impressive climbs throughout the season and thanked him for “making me laugh every minute of every day.”
Schumpert’s win drew widespread praise and delight from viewers after the final aired on Monday night.
His wife, singer Teiana Taylor, couldn’t find the words:
