To improve the quality of life in patients diagnosed with and diagnosed with diabetes, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Querétaro provides comprehensive care through the DiabetesIMSS Care program.
Jesús Alejandro Cerrato Pérez, family physician in charge of the diabetes IMSS program at Family Medicine Unit (UMF) No. 13, indicated that This care model seeks to improve metabolic control and prevent or delay complications of diabetes.Through monthly medical consultations, nutritional counseling, drug treatment and educational sessions.
“It is a multidisciplinary program where beneficiaries receive an intervention of family medicine, nutrition, nursing and social work for a period of six months with the aim of educating them about diabetes as well as preventing potential complications.” Perez.
During monthly consultations, Patients are assessed for their weight, height, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. As well as the detection of complications and monitoring of pharmacological treatment.
It is to be noted that the beneficiaries are accompanied by nutrition service and through group and individual sessions, are assigned a nutrition plan suitable to their needs to improve their eating habits.
Nursing and social work services provide support and advice at all times to improve the quality of life of patients and family members.
