In Antarctica, a strange thing has caught everyone’s attention these days. The NASA scientist is also surprised to see this strange shape made on a white sheet of snow. This long shape of tooth shape is believed to have been made due to the rapid fall of an object or it is dragged far enough. Although scientists are skeptical of this claim.
Express UK, in its report, quoted a Science Channel program What on Earth, said in the report that the image appears to be made of something colliding. Aviation journalist Joe Pappalardo said that there is a possibility that something might have descended quickly and such a shape has formed in the snow.
Mount Erebus disaster kills 257 people
Citing the 1979 plane crash, journalist Pappalardo said that the New Zealand passenger plane had crashed in an icy storm in this accident. This incident is also known as ‘Mount Erebus Disaster’, in which 257 people died.
NASA scientist Dr. Kelly Brunt, familiar with the area of Antarctica, gave this information. He said that a seven-mile-long tooth-shaped ice wall is visible on the frozen sea of McMurdo Sound. Kelly Brunt explained that such a wall consists of the snow flowing from Mount Erebus.
Accident due to whiteout
The incident of Mount Erebus disaster took place on 28 November 1979. Air New Zealand flight 901 departed from Auckland Airport at 7:21 pm. Initially the flight went well, but after some time, after reaching near Mount Erebus, the aircraft was surrounded by a terrible optical illusion. The pilots started to see only white fog around, which is known as whiteout.
Geologist Dr. Alan Lester said that whiteout is a situation in which only white color is seen all around. The accident occurs due to the white glacier below and mist, fog and cloud in front. Air New Zealand’s plane also crashed due to whiteout and 20 crew members died along with 237 passengers.
