Use in Afghanistan and Iraq

The Belgian Melinios was used extensively in Iraq and Afghanistan. In appearance, they look like German Shepherds but they are quite different from them. Belgian Melinios are considered the best in parachuting and landing down any aircraft. Currently, CRPF’s Cobras and ITBP battalions involved in anti-Naxal operations are using it. Apart from this, the NSG also has these special dogs. At the same time, the CISF, which has the responsibility of security of the metro station and the airport, will also be equipped with this dog squad.

Terrorists killed in Pathankot in 2016

The help of these dogs was taken during the NSG operations in the 2016 Pathankot airbase terrorist attack. With his help, the army also succeeded in killing a terrorist. This species of dogs is Belgian and is mostly mahogany colored and has black ears. Their weight is about 20 to 30 kg and their average length is 26 inches.

How much is the cost of a dog

At present, around 553 Belgian Melinios have been deployed at different places with the CRPF. Also, there are 192 people who are being trained. If you want to raise these dogs then you too can raise them. A Belgian Melinios puppy costs between 60 and 85,000. But experts do not advise to raise them because they are inherently aggressive.
