TikTok star Remi Bader talks about her experience with Ozempic, as the diabetes drug becomes the latest diet trend on the internet.
The 27-year-old influencer featured in the latest episode of the podcast not skinny but not fat from Amanda Hirsch, in which she said she was prescribed diabetes medication “before it was fashionable”.
“I’m almost upset that it’s hot now, when I did it for real issues,” Bader, who has 2.2 million followers on TikTok, told Hirsch.
The plus-size model revealed her doctor recommended she try Ozempic soon after it was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2020 to treat her issues with pre-diabetes, insulin resistance and weight gain Could
However, the Victoria’s Secret ambassador said she has mixed feelings about Ozempic, as her discomfort worsens after she stops injecting once a week.
“I went to a doctor and he said, ‘It’s totally because you used Ozempic,’ because it made me think I had no appetite,” she explained. “I lost a little weight. I didn’t want to obsess over managing it long term, and I thought, ‘I bet I’ll be hungry again by the time I quit,’ and I did.”
Bader said, “My alcoholism had gone bad, so I blamed it on Ozempic.” “I increased the weight twice afterwards.”
Ozempic is an antidiabetic drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, although some of its side effects include weight loss. Ozempic, which is the trade name for semaglutide, works by mimicking the hormones that control appetite to produce a feeling of satiety.
Recently, Ozempic is trending on social media as many celebrities are rumored to be using the diabetes drug to lose weight. Due to its popularity as an “off-label” weight loss remedy, increased demand has led to a worldwide shortage of Ozempic, leaving people with diabetes without really needing it.
On TikTok, Remy Bader has gained a massive following for her outspoken criticisms of plus size fashion. The New York native went viral a few months ago when she revealed that a Long Island farm wouldn’t let her ride one of their horses because of her weight.
In a video posted to his TikTok account last June, Bader shared photos of the ranch about him with a caption that read: “Shout out to Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk for letting me off because I’m over 240lbs Am.”
“I’ve ridden a horse before and never had this problem,” he wrote in the caption. “Inform this on your signals in the future.”
He emphasized in the comments how the ranch had failed to “get the word out” about his weight restriction and how “embarrassing” his experience was.
“Honestly, I don’t need anyone’s opinion on this,” she wrote. “It is the fact that it was not notified and how badly it was handled. This was my experience, not yours. How embarrassing to be told I had to go alone when everyone else could have stayed, haha.
The TikTok star went viral once again when she criticized Delta Air Lines for its lack of inclusive seating for plus-size passengers. In a video, which Badar posted on TikTok in early 2022, the model is shown holding on to one side of the seatbelt as she struggles to fasten the other side of the seatbelt.
“Delta. Make it work!” Bader wrote in the clip’s text caption, “And no, you shouldn’t order an extender. It should be easy! @delta”.
