FRISCO, Texas – From left to right, the Cowboys appear to be dealing with a number of injuries on the offensive line, including some of their starting players.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said both Zack Martin and Chuma Edoga, the two starting guards for Sunday’s game against the Jets, will likely miss Wednesday’s practice this week. However, the coach doesn’t rule out the possibility that he could play against the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday.
“I don’t think Zack will practice on Wednesday, but we’ll see what Thursday brings,” McCarthy said Monday. “I think he will definitely get the chance to play on Sunday. And the same goes for Chuma.”
Martin was on the injury report last week with a groin injury, which limited him to two practices. He then suffered an ankle injury during the game that ultimately forced him off the field in the fourth quarter when the Cowboys had a 20-point lead.
Edoga has a forearm injury that kept him out for most of the second half and was replaced by rookie TJ Bass. In the absence of Martin and Edoga, Asim Richards was used as left-back and bass on the right.
Now the Cowboys could get some help at the position with the return of Tyler Smith, who missed two straight games with a hamstring injury he suffered in practice before the Week 1 opener against the Giants.
Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan that Smith could make his debut this Sunday. “We are very optimistic that Tyler (Smith) will have a great opportunity to play against Arizona.”
If Tyler Smith returns, possibly with Martin involved, the Cowboys would play their first game of the season with all of their starters on offense, along with left tackle Tyron Smith, center Tyler Biadasz and right tackle Terence Steele.
