There are many web browsers, but more than 70% of users use a single browser: Google Chrome. The search engine giant knew how to be on time with new and updated software, and in no time it gained the trust of users. But even though he’s king, he can’t rest because his rivals want to dethrone him with all kinds of technology, such as the launch of this new mode for Edge players, Microsoft’s browser.
Internet Explorer is long dead. Even his first attempt at being successful, called “Edge”, was unsuccessful. But Microsoft didn’t give up, and decided to start again by launching a new browser, also called Edge, but this time adopting Google’s engine: Chromium. And finally, they built a browser to match.
Thanks to its engine, Edge is able to offer users the same compatibility with websites and extensions as Google’s browser. And this already from the very beginning gives it a huge advantage. Therefore, Microsoft’s only job is to add functionality to its browser, something it has been doing since the beginning. We’ve seen how it integrates with Microsoft services, it helps us save on shopping by comparing prices and looking for coupons, and it lets us keep tabs vertically, to name a few of this browser’s features. also allows.
But, beyond all that, now Microsoft wants to win over players. And, for this, Edge will be getting its new “Edge for Gamers” mode very soon.
This is the new age for players
As of now, this feature is in a very early stage of development and Microsoft has not given much information about it. What we can know about it is that it will try to improve the experience of players when they use this browser.
In the first description that we can find within the Canary branch of the browser, we find that a new home page focused on sports will be presented. Apart from this, a new sidebar will also be added to it, which players can customize according to their needs.
Also, by activating this mode, we will get a new option that will allow us to reduce the use of browser resources in order to increase game performance. A function clearly designed for those who have the browser open while playing, for example, consult the guide.
Microsoft also makes reference to a new dark mode, very distinctive among gamers, several gaming-themed themes, and a large number of customization options so that gamers can customize the browser to their needs.
Can I activate it now?
To activate it, all you have to do is download and install Edge Canary from the Microsoft website. Once this browser is downloaded and installed, we open it, and within the “Appearance” section we can find the new “Edge for Gamers” option. Of course, this function is not yet available to 100% of Canary users.
We activate it, but at the moment it will do nothing. What we will see is that it automatically redirects us to the Edge Add-ons store to be able to install the add-ons we want. And, in addition, access to Discord and Twitch is automatically added to the sidebar.
It looks like Microsoft isn’t just going for Chrome, but with these features, the future of Opera GX (the version of the browser for gamers) is also in jeopardy.
