Interpol issues red corner notice against Goldie Brar in Musewala murder case

Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against Satinderjit Singh alias Goldie Brar, who had claimed responsibility for killing singer Sidhu Musewala within eight days of the CBI sending the request, officials said on Thursday.

Brar is currently living in Canada.

Officials said the Punjab Police had on May 30 sought a red corner notice against Brar in two old cases.

According to the Punjab Police, Brar, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib, had gone to Canada in 2017 on a student visa and is an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Musewala was killed allegedly in retaliation for the killing of Akali youth leader Vicky Middukheda last year.

The Punjab Police on Tuesday said it has so far arrested eight persons in connection with the brutal murder of the 27-year-old singer.

The CBI, which is the country’s liaison agency with Interpol, said earlier in the day that the Punjab Police had sought a red corner notice against Brar on May 30, a day after the singer’s murder, as against the claims. The state police said it had sent the request on May 19.

The CBI said that a letter was received from the Bureau of Investigation, Punjab Police on May 30 at 12.25 pm through an email, with a letter dated May 19 for issuing Red Corner Notices against Brar in two FIRs registered by Punjab. was demanded. Police – FIR No. 409 dated November 12, 2020 and FIR No. 44 dated February 18, 2021 – at City Police Station, Faridkot.

Moosewala, who recently contested the assembly elections on a Congress ticket in Punjab, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Mansa district. More than 30 empty cans of bullets were found near his SUV in which he was killed.

Sources said the letter was sent nearly six months after the court issued warrants against Brar in both the cases being probed by the state police.

The CBI said that the Red Corner Notice is neither a mandatory nor a pre-requisite for sending an extradition request, especially when the location of the subject is known.

The Red Corner Notice alerts the enforcement agencies of 195 Interpol Member States to locate and detain a fugitive wanted by the requesting Member State.

He said that the FIR number 409 pertains to the firing near Kataria petrol pump in Faridkot on November 11, 2020, in which charge sheet was filed in November, 2021 and warrant was issued on October 1, 2021.

The second FIR pertains to the murder of Gurlal Singh in Faridkot on February 18, 2021, in which a chargesheet was also filed in November 2021. The warrants were opened on September 13, 2021, he said.

“After processing for confirmation of pre-requisite requirements, the Red Corner Notice proposal was forwarded to Interpol (HQ), Lyon on 02-06-2022,” a CBI spokesperson said.
