Involve patients in their own safety

On on the eve of World Patient Safety Day to remember next time Sunday September 17 from World Health Organization (WHO) they encouraged “give patients a voice” by involving them in their own safety.

This is why the 2023 motto “Involve patients in patient safety”, recognizing the important role played by patients, families and carers in health care safety.

Become active members of the processes themselves

World Patient Safety Day is part of WHO’s global public health campaign. Established in 2019 by the 72nd World Health Assembly with the adoption of resolution WHA72.6, entitled “Global action for patient safety” refers to the stimulation of a raising awareness and participation in society, spreading awareness around the world and working towards joint action among Member States and solidarity between them to improve patient safety and reduce harm caused to them.

Goals World Patient Safety Day 2023

Create awareness on a global scale about need for active participation to patients, their families and caregivers in all settings and at all levels of health care with the goal of improving patient safety.

Involve policy makers to the health care leaders to the health and care workers on patient organizations to the civil society and other interested parties in efforts to involve patients and their families in policies and practices for safe health care.

-Empower patients and their families to actively participate in their own health care and to improve health care safety.

– Advocate for adopting urgent measures of participation of patients and their families in accordance with the Global Action Plan for Patient Safety 2021-2030, endorsed by all partners.

A joint effort to make health care safer

The global campaign for World Patient Safety Day 2023 suggests a wide range of activities for all interested parties including national campaigns, policy forums, technical and promotional events, capacity building initiatives and, as in previous years, the lighting of monuments landmarks and emblematic public spaces in orange color (the distinctive brand of the campaign).
