New Delhi Indian cricket team is playing Test series from England these days, but the discussion of IPL is also going on fast in the fans. The players are to be auctioned for the IPL 14th season on February 18, with all eyes on it. Several players have been released this time. 1097 players have registered for the upcoming auction, including 814 Indians and 283 foreigners.
Out of 283 foreign players, maximum 56 are from the West Indies. After that there are 42 from Australia and 38 from South Africa, 31 from Sri Lanka, 29 from New Zealand and 21 from England. Similarly, 9 players from UAE, 8 from Nepal, 7 from Scotland, 5 from Bangladesh and one each from Ireland, USA, Zimbabwe and Netherlands were included in the list. All franchisees have to choose their maximum quota and for this a total of 61 players will be required.
A BCCI media release said that if each franchise has a maximum of 25 players in their squad, 61 players will be taken up for auction (up to 22 of which may be foreign players). 139 players have been retained by eight IPL franchises, while 57 players have been freed by their current teams.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained most of the players. Their number is 22 while the current team of Royal Challengers Bangalore has only 12 players. Kings XI Punjab will enter the auction with the highest amount of Rs 53.20 crore. It will be followed by RCB (Rs 35.90 crore). Kolkata Knight Riders and SRH have the lowest balance of Rs 10.75 crore.
The Rajasthan Royals, who captained Sanju Samson after the release of Steve Smith, will try to fill their three overseas slots. This team has a purse of Rs 34.85 crore. Chennai Super Kings have Rs 22.90 crore, Delhi Capitals have Rs 12.90 crore and Mumbai Indians have Rs 15.35 crore left. The auction is to begin at 3 pm in Chennai.
