NO CREDIBILITY. While the left-wing lawmaker’s situation is complicated by the developer’s case, an Ipsos poll for Peru21 shows that the majority of Peruvians want measures such as lifting his immunity or a 120-day sanction against him.
While his parliamentary aide has just been sentenced to 30 months of preventive detention, prosecutors have already opened an investigation into an alleged crime of influence peddling after an effective collaborator implicated him in the alleged bribes in exchange for work at The Reconstruction Operators case. He claims to be politically persecuted, but 71% of people surveyed by Ipsos do not see him as such and disagree with this position.
As for the measures that should be taken in relation to the complaint against Bermejo, 36% believe that Congress should investigate the case and remove the legislator’s parliamentary immunity so that he can be prosecuted. For a further 31%, the public prosecutor’s office must file a constitutional complaint so that their immunity is lifted and they can be prosecuted. 20% expect Congress to investigate the case and suspend it for 120 days.
