Iron Man could return in three Marvel Studios films. There are three upcoming MCU films that could bring back Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. That would be a historic event. This character was the hero who started everything in the cinematic universe. This happened in 2008 with the film directed by Jon Favreau. Since his story ended with his death in Avengers: Endgame, fans have speculated about how the fan-favorite hero might return. Here are three options that would cause fans to go crazy.
1) Armor Wars, the Marvel Studios film
Don Cheadle’s solo film starring and titled War Machine Armament wars will celebrate the legacy of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in a Marvel Studios story in which Stark’s advanced technology falls into the wrong hands and Rhodey must reclaim it.
The Iron Man spinoff was originally planned as a Marvel series on Disney+ before being adapted into a feature film. Which has led many to believe that the change was made to facilitate the return of Robert Downey Jr. Can you imagine what ultimately happens?
2) Avengers: Kang Dynasty
The Multiverse Saga has placed variants and alternate universes at the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And all of this will start to make sense Avengers: Kang Dynasty. Even though Earth-616’s Iron Man is deceased, the crossover offers the opportunity to introduce a variant of Robert Downey Jr.’s character.
Some speculate that Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror could form the Legion of the Unliving (like he did in Marvel Comics) to fight the Avengers. The team brings together resurrected heroes from different eras to take on and stand up to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Therefore, bringing back Iron Man is another option.
3) Iron Man in Avengers: Secret Wars
There’s no denying that the most likely project for Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is to make his big comeback Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. This will be the culmination of the Multiverse saga. By then it will have been eight years and one Avengers film since his last appearance. This will make his return to Marvel Studios deserved and justified.
Most expect “Avengers: Secret Wars” to bring many classic heroes from the old Fox universe back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and hopefully some Spider-Man too. If the studio wants to deliver fan service on an unprecedented level with Avengers: Secret Wars, including Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is a no-brainer. And the same goes for Chris Evans’ Captain America.
