Because Bukrain LU . I have no candidates
Is a citizen forced into the city council?
The Municipality of Bukrain is in need of a new social director. But nobody wants. But someone has to. Because the residents have no candidates, it could kill someone who doesn’t want it at all.
At the end of October, Social Director Stephan Betschen resigned at Bukrain LU. This causes problems for the society. Because no one wants to inherit him as a councillor, reports “ZentralPlus.”
The official deadline for submission of nominations passed on August 8, but not a single person appeared. And that, although the parties have diligently advertised. According to Mayor Ivo Egger, this may be because many of those who want to join are already busy elsewhere.
Any name can appear in the blank list
Just because no one wants to be a councillor, doesn’t mean the post will remain vacant. Because in the city council one has to obey the betchen. Instead of election proposals, residents will now receive blank lists for elections on September 25, reports Medium. Every resident can be listed there. Then the one who gets the most votes gets elected. The only condition is that the person has reached the age of 18, has been registered with the municipality for at least five days and is entitled to vote.
If a person is elected, they will have to take office – even if they don’t explicitly want to. Is a mandatory office, cites “ZentralPlus” as an administrative staff. Objections can be raised against his own election, but this is permissible only in exceptional cases.
Hoping for a satisfactory solution in Bukrain
Then it can turn out like Duggingen BL, where René Hardmeier was elected to the municipal council in 2009 with only 20 votes. Or in Speringen ur, when Tobias Imhof, who was absent, was elected against his will at a 2017 municipal meeting.
However, in the canton of Lucerne it is not usually the case that one has to hold a position involuntarily. This is because parties or private individuals keep looking for suitable people even after the election deadline and may communicate to those entitled to vote for them through non-official lists of candidates or media releases.
But if this story doesn’t repeat itself in Bukrain and someone is chosen who doesn’t want to, there is probably only one way for that person to avoid holding office: to walk away from the community. (of)
