Before the IPL 2024 auction, some teams had released a lot of players. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also did something similar. RCB had released many players, which included mostly bowlers. However, even during the auction the franchise was not successful in making any significant purchases. For this reason, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has described Faf du Plessis's team as weak on the bowling front.
Royal Challengers Bangalore had released bowlers like Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga and Wayne Parnell before the auction. At the same time, only Loki Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal and Tom Curran were able to buy in the auction. For this reason many experts are calling his bowling attack weak.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar was asked whether Royal Challengers Bangalore have strengthened or weakened their bowling based on the changes. In response, he said:
I think the bowling has become weak, there is no doubt about that. We knew that Josh Hazlewood was not going to be available for the entire season. Therefore his non-selection is understandable. However, letting go of Harshal Patel and Hasaranga, both of whom can bowl early as well as in the middle and final overs, letting go of such experience means that they probably have not helped their team.
The former player further expressed doubts over Alzarri Joseph's success on the Bengaluru ground. They said,
Yes, you have Lockie Ferguson in the team and you have Alzarri Joseph, who has probably got the best figures in the IPL while playing for Mumbai Indians, he took six wickets for 12 runs or something like that, but is he Can we repeat this on Chinnaswamy's pitches? This is going to be an issue.
