A man in the United States won a $250,000 lottery jackpot by purchasing a ticket using a number he saw while sleeping. A report from the NBC-affiliated local WWBT states that Alonzo Coleman of Virginia purchased a ticket from a corner mart.
Mr. Coleman bought the ticket for $2 and was surprised to win a quarter of a million dollars. “It was hard to believe!” He told lottery officials, according to wwbt, “It still hasn’t hit me!”
Mr Coleman was watching the draw on television on 11 June when he noticed that the numbers on his ticket – 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 – were a match. There was also a bonus number 19 but the first six numbers helped him win big bucks.
The lottery results were declared on Thursday.
Coleman, a retired man whose age was not released, told lottery officials that he had previously dreamed of winning numbers.
The Virginia Lottery released a photo of an enthusiastic Mr. Coleman, posing with a giant $250,000 check and “I’m a grumpy old man” T-shirt.
According to newsweekThe Virginia Lottery holds draws on Wednesdays and Sundays and the top three prizes are $1 million, $500,000 and $250,000. It further stated that the odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3.8 million.
There are many stories of big lottery winnings that have stunned the world. Like a truck driver in Michigan who initially hit a $1 million jackpot thinking he won $2,000.
Fox2 Detroit One report said the man asked the lottery office to give him the prize money as a lump sum of $693,000 instead of 30 annual payments.
