Jacksonville, Fla. – Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Mayer has apologized to his family, his team and owner Shad Khan for being “a distraction” after a video surfaced over the weekend showing a young woman dancing on his lap.
Mayer called a team meeting on Monday and vowed to “own it,” the motto he uses daily and Jaguar has plastered around the facility.
“I apologize to the team and staff for the distraction,” the mayor said. “Just stupid and so I explained everything that happened and owned it. Just stupid. I shouldn’t be in that kind of situation.”
Meyer did not return with his team after a 24-21 loss to Jacksonville in Cincinnati on Thursday night. He stayed in Ohio to see family members and went to dinner at his restaurant/bar in Columbus, Urban Meyers Pint House on Friday.
“I stayed to see the grandchildren and we all went to dinner that night,” he said. “There was a big group next to our restaurant and they wanted me to come over and take pictures, and I did. They were trying to drag me on the dance floor, screwing around, and I should leave Was. “
The 9-second video of the mayor and the woman went viral on Saturday night.
“I have always been defensive (to my players). “I remember when (rookie quarterback) Trevor (Lawrence) told me he was going to Vegas for his bachelor party. I was like, ‘My god, man, be careful and surround yourself because I I have seen this happen.
“Team, I spoke to several leaders one after the other, talked to all the players. they are doing well. They are focused on Tennessee. I apologize again for the distraction. A coach should not be distracted.”
The mayor said he also apologized to his family.
“Yes, yes, of course I did,” he said. “That’s not me. Oh yeah, they’re upset.”
