Jaguars beat Jets to keep playoff hopes alive

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. ( Associated Press) – Trevor Lawrence jumped in for a point and the Jacksonville Jaguars kept their postseason hopes alive by earning their third straight win on Thursday, a 19-3 embargo over Zach Wilson and the New York Jets.

Rain and wind complicated the second meeting between the first two picks in last year’s draft. Lawrence was the first and Wilson was the second.

And there was not much conflict either.

Lawrence completed 20 of 31 passes for 229 yards and ran for 51 yards and a score on seven carries for the Jaguars (7–8), who closed to within a half-game of AFC South Tennessee.

Lawrence said, ‘It was a great victory. “It shows the team is growing. We don’t need to score 40 points to win. We don’t need to gain all these yards. We can do whatever it takes to win. Able to adjust.” It was good to be.”

Jacksonville will be crowned in the division if it wins its last two games, including the last of the regular season against the Titans themselves.

Lawrence managed to penetrate the normally strong defense. In contrast, Wilson received little or nothing, incessant taunts until he was sent to the bench.

He admitted, “I felt like I had no rhythm.”

Chris Streveler, called up from the practice squad before the game, replaced him late in the third quarter.

Wilson had nine completions of 18 total passes for 82 yards, including one interception and an anemic 41.9 rating for the Jets (7-8), whose post-season hopes were dealt a devastating blow with their fourth straight loss. Put.

This is their longest stint under coach Robert Saleh, who is in his second year.

“It’s not about the playoffs anymore,” Saleh said. “It’s about getting the most out of it, finding a really cool way to play a good game of football.”
