, US demands immediate release of Kremlin critic Navalny
Solitary confinement again for Alexei Navalny as he is said to commit more crimes from prison. The United States accuses Russian officials of massive disregard for the rights of detainees.
The US government has accused Russian officials of persistently disregarding the rights of imprisoned Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. “The United States is deeply concerned that the Russian government is indiscriminately and increasingly infringing on Alexei Navalny’s rights,” US State Department spokesman Ned Price said in Washington on Friday.
“Law enforcement officers have hindered the preparation of his defense and his ability to communicate freely with his attorney,” it said. For example, Navalny’s conversation with his lawyer will be monitored or the disclosure of documents will be delayed. This approach is “new evidence” of politically motivated disinformation maneuvers against Navalny. This also applies to repeated orders for solitary confinement due to “alleged minor violations” for the Kremlin critic.
Navalny’s behavior of Russian officials exposed his “fear” of “truth-tellers”, criticized the Foreign Ministry spokesman and again called for Navalny’s immediate release.
9 years imprisonment in penal colony
Navalani had announced on his Twitter channel on Wednesday that this time he will have to spend 15 days in a secluded cell. According to his own statements, he was thus locked up in solitary confinement in his penal camp for the fourth time in a row.
On Thursday, he wrote in the online network that the jail administration accused him of committing crimes continuously from the prison camp. Therefore, she announced that she would uphold the confidentiality of communications with her lawyers. The jail administration informed him accordingly, “There will now be a three-day examination of the documents of all the incoming and outgoing lawyers.”
Navalny, 46, is one of the most prominent critics of President Vladimir Putin in Russia and is known for exposing mass protests and corruption cases. He is currently serving a nine-year sentence in a penal colony on charges of embezzlement. He dismissed the allegations against him as politically motivated.
