The director has explained the reasons why the character Vulko will not appear in the sequel.
After a long wait and uncertainty about when Jason Momoa’s DC character would return to theaters, Warner finally released the trailer a few days ago Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, confirms its premiere in December this year and fans are wondering where some of the actors from the first film are who don’t appear to be returning.
One of them is Willem Dafoe’s character Nuidis Vulko, who acted as a species Mentored by Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry in the first film Aquaman but he doesn’t come back in the second, as James Wan himself explained in an interview with Weekly entertainment.
“Willem is not in this film, no. One reason was that their schedule didn’t fit with ours. But it allowed me to expand the role of Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). In this film, Atlanna is the one who becomes Arthur’s advisor. Since Arthur is out of this world, she helps him understand it better,” says the director.
In this volume, Aquaman must team up with his brother Orm, played by Patrick Wison after defeating him in the previous film to take the throne of Atlantis. However, the threat is greater now that Black Manta has taken control of the Black Trident and is ready to destroy the world.
Where is Mera?
Another of the most notable absences from the trailer Aquaman 2 was that of the character of Amber Heard’s Mera, whose only scene lasts just a few seconds that you’ll miss it if you blink. But for James Wan, this change was completely natural, because now the film is about Arthur and his brother Orm.
“The first Aquaman movie was about Mera and Arthur’s journey, but The second film is about Arthur and Orm. “The first one was like a romantic action-adventure film and this one is about an action-adventure romance,” the director explained Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which premieres on December 22nd.
