Nicolás Jarry spoke to the press after completing his performance in Chile’s first round of Davis Cup qualifying, where he defeated Swede Elias Ymer with great aplomb in straight sets.

A comfortable win against Ymer
“I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. I started very well and that always puts me in a much more favorable situation and I was able to maintain this superiority constantly without the other person staying quiet or playing along. This is very important for the level of play. Ultimately, it’s a competition between each other, and if the opponent never stays calm, that’s an advantage for one of them. Luckily, I knew that Elias (Ymer) had played here last year and had more experience than me.
Discomfort due to surface
“They’re more used to these surfaces and we’re not, but mentally I’m very strong.” I have more and more self-confidence to dare to find the game, and I succeeded.
The key to a successful debut
«It’s always positive to start winning. At the moment we are doing well, we came for this, we did our job very well, not just to win but to do our best. Cristian (Garín) did it very well. “I played very well.”
The presence of young people in the stands
«It’s entertaining that they come. It is a huge initiative by the state or city to bring schools or small children to such events. More than one will be marked and these are things that the Chilean ATP is also trying to do so that outside people can get to know the sport better.. It’s a great event, so I’m happy that they brought them, and if they encourage or support us, even more so.
