Jazz secure playoff spot with 121-115 OT win over Grizzlies

SALT LAKE CITY ( Associated Press) — Rudy Gobert had 22 points and 21 rebounds, and the Utah Jazz secured a playoff berth with a 121-115 overtime win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

Jordan Clarkson also finished with 22 points for Utah. Donovan Mitchell added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Hassan Whiteside took 14 points and 10 boards off the bench.

Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 28 points for the Grizzlies. Tyes Jones added 24 points and Desmond Bain had 23 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Memphis played without their top two scorers. Ja Morant (pain in right knee) and Dillon Brooks (pain in right hip) were both inactive. The same injury has sidelined Morant since mid-March. His absence didn’t stop the Grizzlies from making big baskets in the fourth quarter.

Jackson scored a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute of regulation, and Kyle Anderson put Bane’s airball back before the buzzer to overtime at a 3-pointer. Mitchell was 1 for 2 with 5.6 secs from the free throw line and the Jazz were leading 109-108.

Utah moved on for good when Mitchell and Gobert scored on back-to-back possessions to help the Jazz take a 119–113 lead. Memphis were placed in overtime for four minutes without a basket.

Utah took a 30-19 lead in the second quarter after Clarkson and Mike Connelly scored 10-1 for three consecutive runs.

Memphis wiped out a double-digit deficit just before halftime. The Grizzlies tied it to a corner 3 from the bane and took a 50–48 lead on a pair of free throws from Jackson, with 7.2 seconds left in the half.

Bain scored four baskets in three-and-a-half minutes after halftime to help give Memphis a 68-57 lead. The second-year guard had 12 points in the third quarter alone. With Bane advancing, the Grizzlies scored six of their first nine shots in the second half.

Utah went 91-83 at the start of the fourth quarter to trail 21-7, with three baskets and three assists from Clarkson. Danielle House, Jr. captured the bounce with a four-point game and a gully-up dunk.
