Recently, the footballers of the Spanish women’s team received a call from the new technical director Montse Tomé who did not call Jenni Hermoso, a striker who was kissed without consent by former Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales during the FIFA Women’s World Cup awards ceremony when they emerged as champions.
The call involves 23 players, including 20 who signed a letter refusing to play with the team again. called for changes within the RFEF such as the restructuring of the Presidential and General Secretary Cabinet, the Communications and Marketing Division and the Integrity Directorate.
However, the footballers followed the latest call ahead of Spain’s Nations League game against Sweden this Friday, September 22nd.
It has been revealed that the technical director decided not to call Jenni Hermoso forward to “protect” her.
“A new stage begins. (…) We were convinced that this was the best way to protect it.” said Tomé about the decision to exclude Hermoso from the tender.
After knowing the determination, Jennifer Hermoso released a statement questioning RFEF policies and stating that “nothing” had changed at the institution following Rubiales’ resignation. in the midst of the non-consensual kissing scandal, which is in the formal investigation phase.
“We have been looking for weeks and months for this protection that we could not find in the RFEF itself. The same people who are asking us for confidence are the ones who today are releasing a list of players who have asked not to be drafted.” he claimed.
Furthermore, he added that this is “another indisputable evidence that shows that nothing has changed today and that confirms the reason why they are fighting.”
“I would like to show my full support to my colleagues who were surprised today and forced to respond to another unfortunate situation caused by the people who continue to make decisions within the RFEF today.” he added.
Finally, she emphasized that there had been an attempt to argue that the environment was “safe” for her teammates within the team, but the fact that she had not been called in for supposed protection proved otherwise. “Protect me from what? Or in front of who?” he concluded.
